Arcane Will Not Have a Third Season, Says Co-Creator

Arcane fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Season 2, but there’s bittersweet news: as far as its creators are concerned, there is no Season 3 on the horizon. However, Arcane will only have two seasons, and its amazing journey on Netflix will come to an end.

Since its release, Arcane has given League of Legends fans everything they could expect from a TV show adaptation and has left fans eager for more seasons to dive deeper into the game’s lore. But viewers will have to be content with the two seasons the authors planned from the beginning.

Season 2 Release Details

The second season premiered with the first act on , and the entire nine episodes were released in two weeks. For those who were hooked to the first season aired in 2021, this final run might be one to watch rather than marathoning.

Arcane was released in the year 2021 and it was a hit series that ranked high in 52 countries and was the most-watched show on Netflix in that November.

Why Arcane Ends with Season 2

What is more, Netflix did not participate in the process of deciding that Arcane would be over after the second season. As per co-creator Christian Linke, it was a creative decision of the Arcane team to wrap up the show in this manner. The team had a “specific ending” from the start of the project and therefore, Season 2 was a logical conclusion to the series.

“Since the start, we knew what the final scene would be, so Arcane concludes with this second season.”

Speaking in an interview with CinemaBlend, Linke explained that it was important to stop extending the show just to make more seasons because it would be ‘irresponsible’.

“It’s irresponsible to take this to a level where it is almost impossible to do it justice. We don’t want to overdo it.”

Fortiche, the production partner of Arcane, has been using these characters for almost a decade, and Linke pointed out that it is difficult to remain passionate about it for so long. “We’ve all seen TV shows where clearly the writers are running out of juice.” How can you keep being inspired by the same thing, for how long?

What’s Next for Riot Games and Fortiche?

But for fans of the League of Legends universe, there is good news. This might be the end of Arcane, but not of Fortiche‘s storytelling within Runeterra. As Linke pointed out, Arcane is only the “first of many stories” Riot Games wants to share with Fortiche Productions.

“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey with the great animation studio Fortiche. This is only the first of many stories we want to bring to life in Runeterra.”

Season 2 may provide fans with hints about the show’s future, but the League of Legends world is vast enough to open numerous possibilities for new projects. Audiences will be able to anticipate the chance of visiting places like The Void or seeing the growth of Noxus in future episodes.

It remains to be seen if Fortiche will continue the steampunk aesthetic of Arcane or dive into new genres, but one thing is certain: there is much more to explore in the world of League of Legends.
